A Birthday...Well Done!
Ruth’s Chris Steak House has long been a family favorite … way before I had a laundry list of food allergies. I thought this would be the perfect place to take my mom to celebrate her birthday but I didn’t want my food allergies to get in the way. I did what was now become the norm when dining out — I called to discuss my food allergies with the staff before making a reservation. I was assured that they could prepare a meal to my extensive dietary needs.
When we arrived, our server reviewed my allergies and then he took my allergy card to the chef. Festive happy birthday confetti decorated the table and the menu was personalized with Happy Birthday — a nice touch. There was a warm loaf of bread on the table, which is typically one of my favorite parts of dining out. Unfortunately, they get their bread from a local bakery and couldn’t speak to the ingredients, so I had to pass. Struggles.
Our server returned with chef recommendations. I was originally hoping for the fresh-cut fries with my steak, but I was quickly told that they cook their fries in the same grease as the fish. I’m not sure why they do that — not only because of people with seafood allergies like me, but wouldn’t that make the fries taste like fish?
My mom and I both ended up ordering the filet mignon with mashed potatoes. It’s rare for me to go to a restaurant and actually eat everything on my plate, but I did. Ruth’s Chris never lets me down. Check them out!
